Block Description

Learners understand and ideate the ways in which the parent community can be integrated into the house system.

During Block

Step 1: Greet Class (2 min)

What did we learn in the previous lesson? (We learned about the house points system.)

Step 3: Set Expectations (2 min)
Now that we have learned about all aspects of the house system, we will discuss how we can include the parent community into the system.

Step 4 Description

  • Learners discuss the ideas for including the parent community into the house system

Step 4 Content 

Discuss the following ideas and ask for more ideas and note them down.

This system is designed to be open to community members pitching in as volunteers or pitching in with their expertise.

  • Experts in sports can train students and judge competitions
  • Experts in games like chess can train students and judge competitions
  • Project-related experts can guide and mentor students in the ideation, planning, and execution of their house projects. Parents can participate in show-and-tell.
  • Parents can volunteer to support the school in planning and executing house days.
  • Parents can take charge of a house and take over some of the work of the house teacher 
  • Parents can take charge of assemblies/projects/competitions and help students prepare for them

Answer the following questions: 

  • Are there any ideas for including parents in the house system?
  • Are there any parents who come to mind who will immediately be willing to help?
  • How will you reach out to these parents? (Individual calls, focus group meetings, etc.)
  • When will you reach out to these parents?

Homework

Review and finalize all the actions that need to be taken to launch the house system.
