Block Description

Learners understand the responsibilities of the student leaders in the school.

During Block

Step 1: Greet Class 

Step 2: Review Previous Session (2 min)

What did we do in the previous block? (Learned about the responsibilities of the school subject teachers, class teachers and house teachers.)

Have you prepared for the Lesson 2 Block 3 homework? (Have learners share the schedule for training and regular meetings with the teachers. Principals as such touch base daily with the subject teachers and coordinators. Ensure that principals meet the class teacher and house teacher at least once a fortnight.)

Step 3: Set Expectations (2 min)

This block is a repetition of the responsibilities of the House Teacher and House Leader. It can be shown to the house teachers. 

Step 4 Description

  • Learners understand the responsibility of the Vice-Head Boy and Vice-Head Girl, who are in charge of the houses. 

Step 4 Content

House Teacher Responsibilities

House Teachers are the heads of the 4 school houses. The house teachers have the following responsibilities:
Note: the house teacher is free to take the assistance of any other teacher to fulfill their responsibilities

  • Select/Conduct a vote for the House Captains and House Vice Captains
  • Train the house captains and vice-captains on the following:
  • House Values
  • House Days and House Competitions
  • House Competition schedule for the month
  • Rules for House Competitions
  • House Captain Responsibilities
  • House Vice-Captain responsibilities
  • Intra-House Interactions
  • Observe and guide house students in the following meetings:
    • Welcome meetings
    • Monthly meetings
    • Assembly team meetings
    • Project team meetings
  • Ensure all students in the house are meaningfully participating in the house system
  • Coordinate with School Vice-Head Girl/Vice-Head Boy and maintain a record of the names of students who have signed up for various house competitions.
  • Coordinate with School Vice-Head Girl/Vice-Head Boy and guide house members in preparing for house competitions, projects, or assembly.
  • Update house points after each competition, FA, SA, or project

  • Learners understand the responsibility of the Vice-Head Boy and Vice-Head Girl, who are in charge of the houses. 

Step 5 Content

Vice-Head Boy and Head-Girl Responsibilities

The Vice-Head Boy and Vice-Head Girl are selected from Grade 9. They are in charge of the students’ participation and performance in the School House System. They work closely with the house teachers, house captains, and the school principal to fulfill their responsibilities. 

  • Work with house captains and maintain a list of the students who have signed up for assemblies, competitions and projects.
  • Ensure regular school assemblies by coordinating with the weekly house assembly team and house teacher
  • Ensure effective preparation by student teams for house competitions and house projects by working with house teachers and house captains
  • Follow up on preparation for house projects by the project teams

  • Learners understand the responsibility of the House Captains

Step 6 Content

House Captain Responsibilities

The house captains are chosen from Grade 8. They are in charge of ensuring effective participation and preparation of their house members in the house system. They work closely with the house teacher, vice-head boy, and vice-head girl in order to fulfill their responsibilities.

  • In charge of running all the intra-house meetings
  • Ensure meaningful participation of all house students in the house system by coordinating with the house teacher
  • In charge of following up with house assembly teams and house project teams by coordinating with the Vice-Head Boy/Vice-Head Girl
  • In charge of inducting new admissions into the house system
